On the 28th day of my life in the countryside, the weather was once again clear and sunny. Yet, there was a subtle chill in the air, a sign that autumn was gradually taking hold.
I wonder if seasons exist in the other world too?
As I pondered this, I found myself in front of a massive chunk of meat from a Big Sangria, contemplating what to prepare with it.
We recently hosted a fried chicken festival with the First Knight's Order, and we consumed a considerable amount of meat. Thanks to that, there's only a little left now.
Initially, I had been worried when the meat overflowed from our industrial-sized refrigerator. But now, it seemed we would be able to enjoy every last piece without any waste.
Although they're magical beasts, they still provide us with life, so I want to be grateful and enjoy every bit of it.
Meanwhile, Kuro-Mame was happily gnawing on the bones of the Big Sangria, though it was hard to tell which part they were enjoying.
However, Kinako seemed to prefer the thigh bone of the White Galleon that Chronos gave them. They just licked the bone briefly and then carried it off to some unknown place.
It seems like they definitely buried it somewhere in the garden... Are they planning to use it as an emergency snack?
But these guys... In the end, you always forget where you buried them, don't you?
And it turns into a surprising discovery when I'm plowing the field or planting garden trees. It's like finding a full skeleton, isn't it? I wish you'd stop doing that, but I guess it can't be helped.
Now, what should I make with the remaining meat? Grilled pork is a must... Spare ribs is also tempting.
Just as I was about to start cutting the meat with a knife, something stirred in the courtyard. Kuro-mame is barking excessively, but it wasn't an alert bark, it was a joyous one.
Could it be Chronos again?
Thinking this, I rushed over to see Chronos standing there, once again carrying something substantial.
"Hey..."
"........."
Chronos seemed embarrassed, wearing an awkward expression and looking somewhat lost.
"Chronos-san..."
As soon as our eyes met, Chronos briefly averted his gaze, looking uncomfortable, but then quickly gazed at me with a happy expression.
"It really is you, Rinsakura-san." His tail wagged rapidly, and his animal ears flopped energetically, side to side.
The relief at seeing him in good health was short-lived, though. I was taken aback.
Huh? What's the creature that he's carrying on his back?
It's significantly larger than Chronos. Is it a giant boar? A cow? It's a creature that's probably at least twice the size of Chronos. I have a bad feeling about this.
It looks like a magical beast of the Big Sangria lineage, at least from its appearance.
"Last time, I caused quite a bit of trouble." Chronos said as he set down the magical beast from his back.
There was a slight thud... and Kinako and Kuro-mame were visibly startled.
"It's good to see you're well, but Chronos-san, what is that thing?"
"Hmm? This? This is a King Big Sangria. It's the most delicious meat you'll ever taste. It's the rarest magical beast, the final evolution of the Big Sangria, with only one in ten thousand!" Chronos explained.
Another load of meat!! Just when I thought we had consumed it all!
It might be like Matsusaka beef or Kobe beef in the world of beef, but we've had enough meat already...
"I encountered it during training, so I hunted it. It's my way of apologizing for causing trouble. But well... I also wanted to taste a dish made with this top-grade meat, Rinsakura-san." Chronos said with a happy expression.
I wondered if in this country, the standard apology gift was to give magical beast meat? Or perhaps, Chronos was genuinely craving meat dishes and hunted it despite recovering from his illness.
"Sigh..." Chronos looked flustered as he saw my somewhat hesitant attitude.
"Is it a no-go...? Are you still angry?" It's not that I'm angry. It's more like I'm bewildered by how extreme Chronos can be.
A whining, pleading sound seemed about to escape. When Chronos expressed loneliness like that, I'm always carried away by it. Thinking he was quite adorable.
"I'm not angry, really. It's just that I can't help but think that you really love meat." I said, smiling gently.
Chronos, looking relieved, suddenly became serious and said, "Actually...
"Could it be that Rinsakura-san prefers fish? In that case, I'll catch a King Piranha next time. It might look pretty grotesque, but it's a delicious white fish!" Chronos suggested.
King Piranha... It already sounded pretty out there, not to mention he said grotesque in appearance.
If he were to bring a fish as big as a tatami mat would be problematic, so I should politely decline for now. Fresh food is difficult to store.
"I like both, but for now, this King Big Sangria is more than enough."
"I see. In that case, it's all good."
"Since we're done with this conversation, come on inside for now." I said, inviting Chronos into the house.
